Twitter bridging the gap between the Farm and the Table
Twitter has become, among other things, a way to bridge the gap between farm and table, and connect Canadians wanting to know more about where their food comes from with the people who make their living producing it.
Could Twitter actually help shorten the supply chain?
Dublin Web Summit
Another Dublin Web Summit event is happening on the 17th-18th October with tickets going on sale the end of this month. This event is where the brightest and best tech entrepreneurs descend onto Ireland to give advice and encouragement.
Love the way that the intensity to party until 8 in the morning whilst drinking 12 year old Jameson and still be up in 3 hrs for your panel is seen as a key entrepreneurial trait. I know a lot of Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerbergs if that’s the case.

Nokia gets with the programme and releases a new generation of Smartphones
This has yet to have implications for iFarm (Text the word ‘iFarm’ to 51000 to get the iFarm app for your smartphone…Ire only) due to what I perceive to be relatively poor penetration in the Irish market. This is a surprise as Nokia brand still held in high esteem in Ireland especially amongst farmers. We have been using iFarm on the Nokia Lumia and we haven’t encountered any connectivity issues or ‘jQuery bounce’ which has been a problem on older versions of Android.
Overview here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/oct/26/nokia-launches-windows-phones-to-combat-apple-and-android
Lumia has an attractive price in the high-end market, a little bit cheaper than the iPhone. But the screen size isn’t big enough, whereas Samsung offer bigger displays. Size is key in the market and although Apple screens are similar you never know what they are going to come up with next and Apple has a tablet. There is no Nokia tablet to compete.

Farmer-proof Smartphone
Farmer friendly smartphone on the way – and when I say friendly I mean you can drop this in a drain, drop it on the concrete floor of your shed and throw it in your pocketful of nails and not worry about damage. Farmers and Farmerettes let me introduce the MOTOROLA DEFY working of Android 2.1 with upgrades imminent.
